About the Role

The Backend Engineer role focuses on building robust, maintainable, and scalable systems that stand up to real-world usage. This is not about chasing complexity or novelty, but about understanding the problem deeply and building the simplest solution that works at scale. The role requires close collaboration with product, design, and engineering teams, along with a strong sense of ownership from development through production.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate backend systems used in enterprise and public sector environments

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, sharing knowledge and improving collective outcomes

• Communicate technical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

• Build systems with a strong understanding of production constraints, reliability, and long-term maintenance

• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and ensure systems are supported by automated tests

• Adapt ways of working based on client context, maturity, and constraints

Skills & Experience

• Extensive experience building, maintaining, and operating enterprise-grade applications across multiple domains

• Deep expertise in a primary programming language and its ecosystem

• Working knowledge of additional languages, frameworks, and toolsets

• Strong understanding of agile software development principles and practices

• Proven ability to avoid over-engineering and focus on pragmatic, high-quality solutions

• Experience designing scalable systems using modern cloud infrastructure

• Clear understanding of the path to production, including CI/CD and testing practices
