A new Specialized Indexing subteam is being formed within the SQL Queries organization — a rare greenfield opportunity to build high-performance indexing systems from the ground up. This is deep systems work at the intersection of databases and AI, building the future of vector, full-text, and geospatial search inside a production-grade distributed SQL engine.

What You’ll Do

• Design, build, and maintain vector, full-text, and geospatial indexing features for a distributed SQL engine
• Improve performance and reliability of existing vector indexing systems – backfill, query planning, and import workflows
• Develop hybrid search capabilities combining vector similarity and text-based search for AI and modern search workloads
• Partner with database teams to integrate new indexing mechanisms into the query engine
• Own work end-to-end – from design through implementation, testing, and release
• Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and release planning within the SQL organization
• Within 6 months, play a key role in shaping the roadmap for future indexing and search features

What You Bring

• 6+ years of experience building large-scale, production-grade systems
• Strong background in backend or systems programming – Go, C/C++, or Rust preferred
• Experience with indexing or query execution systems – vector, text, or spatial search
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems
• Curiosity about AI-driven and hybrid workloads combining structured and unstructured data
• Passion for databases, indexing systems, and high-performance distributed architectures
• Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively with a distributed global team
• Focus on building reliable, maintainable, high-performance software
