Role Overview
The Design Manager is responsible for leading and supervising the complete design lifecycle across pre-design, design development, and tender stages for large-scale, complex construction projects.
This role ensures effective coordination across multi-disciplinary design teams, adherence to applicable codes and standards, and delivery of high-quality, cost-efficient design solutions.
Reporting to the Project Manager, the Design Manager provides overall direction, technical oversight, and control of the design program, with direct responsibility for design reviews, coordination, schedule monitoring, design documentation, and tender deliverables. The role also involves close collaboration with clients, consultants, and local authorities to ensure timely approvals and smooth execution.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the end-to-end design program across pre-design, design, and tender stages
Assist the Client in planning and developing design consultant contracts
Oversee consultant prequalification, TOR preparation, proposal evaluation, and award processes
Provide technical leadership and supervision to design consultants and A/E teams
Monitor design consultant performance against approved schedules, costs, quality standards, and contractual requirements
Plan, conduct, and manage design reviews to ensure coordination, constructability, and compliance
Participate in and support Value Engineering and constructability review workshops
Manage design schedules, documentation flow, specialist design reviews, and design package development
Ensure design review teams clearly understand their roles, responsibilities, and review objectives
Coordinate with Clients, consultants, and local authorities to obtain statutory and regulatory approvals
Support cost optimization efforts while maintaining design intent, quality, and compliance

Desired Profile
Minimum 8+ years of experience in design management for large-scale construction projects
Proven experience managing complex, multi-disciplinary design programs
Hands-on expertise in preparing, reviewing, and managing design and tender documentation
Strong understanding of regulatory approvals, compliance requirements, and construction documentation
Experience working with multiple consultants, stakeholders, and client teams
Demonstrated ability to lead design teams, manage consultants, and drive timely design delivery
